Royal Harbor and Speed Zone enforcement in Naples Bay

Naples Water Police are ready to start handing out tickets for those boaters that are not complying to the slow speed Zones in Naples Bay. The letter of the law says that you can go 30 MPH in designated marked areas in the channel. However, many boaters leave their canal and as soon as they hit the Bay they speed up on plane and enter the channel. Also when returning they veer out of the channel and speed on to the canal entrance before slowing down and coming to a restful slow speed. Officers are now stopping these boats and giving them tickets.
Slow speed Zones that are marked means that you may have to slow your motor to under 1500 rpm. (about 1300 on my boat) this will let you move along without a wake and your bow will be down. If you are plowing and your bow is up you are too fast and are asking for a ticket.
You may be complying at a slow speed and be passed by one of the several Charter fishing Captains boats. They have some sheilding from enforcement since they are making a living on the water. Officers have confirmed this so there is no use complaining .
Naples Police may also ask to see you safety gear. Be sure you have it ready. Also current registration. I have had ocassion when for some reason I had last years registration on the boat but the correct sticker and was given a pass.
